WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new settings menu for Android users.

WhatsApp is reportedly developing a redesigned settings menu for Android, which uses rounded-corner containers to group related options. The new layout follows Google’s “Material Design 3” (Expressive) design language, altering how individual settings are displayed on the screen. This design is expected to be applied to sections such as “Account,” “Privacy,” and “Notifications.” However, the feature is still under development and has not yet been made available to beta testers. WhatsApp has not announced a timeline for the official rollout of this redesigned settings menu.

WhatsApp is testing a redesigned settings menu on Android
WABetaInfo discovered the new interface in the WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.26.43.3, available via the Google Play Store. Instead of the previous long, continuous list, the new design organizes related settings into boxes with rounded corners. The first and last options within each group feature more pronounced corner rounding, while the intermediate options are packed closely together. This makes it easier for users to distinguish which settings belong to the same group and to identify where each section begins.

Reportedly, the new layout follows Google’s Material Design 3 “Expressive” design specifications, which define the appearance of elements such as lists, buttons, and navigation bars within Android applications. The segmented list style adjusts the shape of each item based on its position within a group, making it easier to distinguish between different settings.

WhatsApp is expected to implement this design across all its settings pages—including those for account, privacy, and notifications—meaning the change will not be limited solely to the main settings menu.

Notably, this is not the only interface change WhatsApp is bringing to Android. The app is reportedly testing a bottom navigation bar that shrinks into a small, pill-shaped element when scrolling down, and expands again when scrolling up. Additionally, a redesigned chat bar is also in development.

As the new settings menu is still under development, it may be some time before users can experience it. WhatsApp has not yet announced a release date for this update or other interface changes.
